| | Do you check for train before crossing the railroad tracks? | | Hello mylot! I live in a small rural town with trains runnig through the center of it all the time. In fact, I can set my alarm clock to when the train runs through town. Often I end up crossing the railroad tracks when I go for my daily walk. Now usually a train will blow it's whistle before coming through town, but one time there was one of those fancy speed trains gnoig through. There was no whistle or warning it was coming, either. So I stepped across the railroad tracks as usual. Yet about 5 seconds after I crossed to the other side, the speed train went by as silently as a ghost in the night. It really scared me because there was no warning, like the usual gates that come down. Nowadays when I go walking, I take the time to check for incoming trains before crossing the railroad tracks. It just got me thinking how often do we really check for the train before crossing them? Often times we assume it is safe, simply because there are no railroad gates down. and with all the railroad and pedestrian accidents lately on the news, it might be a good idea! | |
